I bought this truck in 1975 from a strip mining company. It was a shop truck. The truck had an 8 ½ ft bed, 307 engine with a 3 speed on the column with 4 wheel drive. After about 6 years I wanted to change from a step side bed to a fleet side but I couldn’t find an 8 ft or 8 1/2 ft bed so I cut the frame and made a 6 foot bed out of it. I ran it for 20 years and being a snow plow operator for 35 years for the state of PA, I needed the 4 wheel drive to get to work. My son ran the truck for 4 or 5 years and the truck was in pretty bad shape. After I retired in 2006 I started working on the truck. Not needing the 4 wheel drive anymore, I did a frame off restoration on the truck working in my 2 car garage. I rebuilt a frame from a 1968-2 wheel drive, redid the brakes, put disc brakes on the front, added power steering, redid all the cab and the body panels, put a 350 crate motor, automatic transmission, rear from a 1972 ½ ton. I did everything myself including painting, body work, wiring everything! The only thing I had done by someone else was having the transmission rebuilt. Not being able to work on this truck in the winter months it took me 2 ½ years working when I felt like working on it. I saw your ad on TV and decided to enter. I never did any kind of auto body or mechanical work before this project. I just asked questions and watched TV shows. One show that helped was a show that had a project called “Project Copperhead”. They redid a 72. I couldn’t afford to buy all new parts so I fixed what I could and made what I needed. I hope you like the finished truck. I used: PPG Paint, most of the stuff I got from Brothers and LMC, Dupli-Color bedliner for under the cab coating, 20” tires and wheels from Lug Nutz in PA. All work was done 100% by me. Thank you!
